Tips
Furniture:
- cover lounge suites and mattresses with covers
- fabric items must be cleaned and dry
- empty wardrobes, cupboards and drawers
- disassemble beds
- use padding or bubble wrap to protect table tops, mirrors and paintings or any other objects with corners or edges
Books / Records:
- pack flat - not on spines
- use small cartons
- pack records on edge
- clearly label all cartons on top and sides
- fill cartons completely to avoid collapse
Crockery:
- place heavy items on bottom of carton
- individually wrap items
- stand plates, platters etc. on edge
- use crunched paper to fill gaps
- bubble wrap is ideal for those much-loved items
- fragile labels
Appliances:
- make sure everything is clean and dry
- leave doors slightly ajar on fridges / freezers and other white goods
- avoid placing any items inside white goods
Clothing / Linen:
- Use linen to pack tops and bottoms of cartons
- Use small linen pieces to fill gaps in cartons
- Make sure linen is clean and dry
- Use mothballs or flakes
Toys / Tools / Machinery:
- clean tools
- if prone to rust wipe with oil impregnated cloth
- drain fuel and oil from all machinery
- remove batteries
Electrical / Computers:
- repack in original box if possible
- individually wrap items using bubble wrap
- pack out gaps with paper or cartons
- use packing or linen on top and bottom of cartons
